Our team visited JASMYN where we engaged in an inspiring roundtable discussion with staff members, followed by the opportunity to collect media testimonials from queer youth about their experiences of activism and education work in Jacksonville, Florida.  In Tampa, we provided a three hour training on improving services for queer youth to a network of foster care agencies – this training was the start of ongoing work we’ll be providing to this particular network. We also screened PUT THIS ON THE {MAP} at Club Unity at Flagler College in St. Augustine followed by New College in Sarasota, where we had the opportunity to discuss the themes of the Reteaching Gender & Sexuality tour at length, as part of an evening screening and workshop and morning discussion in New College’s student-run vegan cafe!

This movie is a documentary style film about the murder of Matthew Shepard in 1998. They are going to be raising money to support GLBTQ youth to PUT THIS ON THE {MAP} and the Safe Schools Coalition. This event is one of many screenings of this film taking place in Unitarian churches across the the greater Pacific NW this winter/spring. PUT THIS ON THE {MAP} educators will lead the discussion on 2/11/11 in Woodinville.

PUT THIS ON THE {MAP} received awards in this past weekend’s Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival. The film won the Audience Vote for Best Local Film and the Jury Vote of Honorable Mention for Short Film. Here’s what the jury said: “The most diverse and all-inclusive short film of the festival. Well-crafted art direction and editing. Galvanizing. Given the current media attention youth in our community are getting, this film must be seen nationwide.”

The award is also mentioned today in an article in the Bellevue Reporter.
